Photoshop for Photographers with Lou Adzima
Photoshop is the engine that drives digital photography today. This one-day course will introduce the basic operation and functionality of Photoshop's tool-bar, menus and pallets. We will answer questions and help resolve some of the frustrations many experience trying to get Photoshop working to its fullest potential. This is the opportunity for photographers to receive hands-on instruction and the help needed to foster one's digital creativity.
Beginning with Bridge to acquire images into the computer, students will rename, sort and rank their favorite images. We'll set preferences to make Photoshop look and feel the way each wants it to. Moving on to the tool bar, we'll explore the function and use of each tool, and when to use it. Palettes, and how they help monitor and modify work, will be introduced. Furthermore, students will learn to use layer masking, basic color correction, how to transform images, when to use smart objects, how to sharpen images, how to crop a photo, and other skills necessary to produce the final image desired.
As this course will not be using a digital lab, participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops loaded with Photoshop (and a mouse or graphics tablet, if possible) to follow along with the processes that will be demonstrated on a projection screen.
Lou Adzima (www.fromtheranch.com) is a former Navy photographer whose assignments included both still and motion picture work. Working as a ground and aerial photographer, his naval training included both B&W and color processing and printing, and camera repair. At the time of his retirement, Lou served as the Fleet Pacific's Imaging Command Departmental Head of Imaging and Information Systems. He concluded his Navy photo career of 38 years by teaching Photoshop to U.S. Navy photographers for 7 years. Lou currently operates his own studio in Jamul, CA.
